Indian Animator and Filmmaker Varun Mehta wins International Filmmaking Challenge

New Delhi : Acclaimed Indian Animation and Short Filmmaker Varun Mehta has won the International Holiday Filmmaking Challenge conducted by Mobile Movie Making Magazine online in US. His film entry 'Diwali - The Festival of Lights' was submitted to the competition last year that featured entries from all over the world. The contestants were asked to make a short film on a particular or established holiday that must be shot over a smartphone or a mobile phone.

The winners of the competition were announced on 28th of March 2018. There was a tie for the first prize while another prize was given to the entry with most popular votes. Varun Mehta from India and Prakash Gandhi Natarajan from US were selected for the Top Jury Prize. Both the winners have been awarded with the prize money of 125$ from the contest holders. The rest of the Information is given below via the link from the official site [Mobile Movie Making]

On speaking about the challenges of making the film 'Diwali - The Festival of Lights' Mehta said - "It is just a simple film, narrated with a very simplistic fashion. I think the Idea was just to explore the beauty of the surroundings that look extremely beautiful on the night of Diwali and its significance. I wanted it to be a little different from other documentaries that rely so heavy on mythological aspect of the festival. For a mobile movie, the concept had to do the job and I am really glad it worked. I am grateful to the Jury of Mobile Movie Making magazine for choosing my entry over some really amazing film entries that came along from all over the world.

Not only this, Mehta's another film 'Environmental Festival - The Step towards Awareness' that deals with the concept of Indian campaign 'swachh bharat' has secured a spot in the upcoming International Children Film's Festival going to be held in Lucknow from April 5. An excited Varun told us "I am extremely happy that my film is going to be a part of such a huge festival. I am honored with the Jury for selecting my film. It's going to be screened on 12th April and I am very excited and thrilled.

Mehta is known for his animation, live action works in films and media. He has been awarded for his films like 'The Unknown World' 'The Wonder Stone' 'Save Trees' 'The Art of Farming' 'My Last Visions' to name a few. His films usually deal with environmental and social issues. Mehta works under his production banner 'Wiz Motion Studio' that is located in the cities of Aligarh, Noida (U.P.) of India.

OMG Varun Dhawan lost his COOL over a Troll on a Tweet.

Trolling by anonymous users on Twitter is not anything new. Everyday a celebrity is being targeted by trolls with their nasty comments which are sometimes really mean and disgraceful. Most of the times the Celebrities and Actors do not reply and take the dignified way of not responding. But sometimes like any other normal human being. They too loses their cool and blast the trolls and condemn them. While their act of condemning the trolls often receive praises while other people also suggest to ignore. The latest to get targeted is Bollywood heartthrob Varun Dhawan who reacted against the threats offered against Deepika Padukone who stars as the lead actress in film Padmavati followed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Varun Dhawan expressed his shock over a tweet shared by TOI.

Varun Dhawan's Tweet wrote : Shocked!!! This is not protesting this is threatening. If this was a sportsmen or an important businessman being threatened...I wonder what would have happened?

A troll named @LogicalGabbar who happens to be 'following' Varun Dhawan on Twitter happened to be an Akshay Kumar Fan reacted to Varun's Tweet by taking a dig at him. His response came under the tweet made originally by Varun.

His tweet wrote : Sportsman and businessman don't hurt public sentiment for their personal greed. Like you people do #bhaand (@LogicalGabbar)

His tweet was liked by more than 50 people which attracted Varun's attention. Unable to hold himself, Varun decided to give a befitting reply to the troll and blasting him with a Tweet full of Anger.

His tweet wrote : Why you following me then loser. Also the person you have as your profile picture happens to be in the same profession your mocking so #stfu

After the reply, The Akshay Kumar fan realized his folly and changed his Display Picture that carried Akshay Kumar's name however Varun Dhawan's fans came to his rescue and decided to teach the troller a lesson.

Here are some Tweets below

While we do agree that sometimes trolls go too far in expressing their dislike and passing really nasty comments. We suggest the actors to stay calm or always take a dignified way while reacting to trolls. The Film Stars are looked up as Inspiring figures who are role models for many. Hence it is Important to lose your cool on petty issues. Hope the trollers also learn a lesson from this.

Indian Filmmaker Varun Mehta wins Public Choice Award in US based Contest

Acclaimed Indian Artist and filmmaker Varun Mehta has won the People’s Choice Award in MobileMovieMaking’s video interview contest. The Contest was conducted by Mobile Movie Making from US in the month of April 2017. The challenge was to use a smartphone or other mobile device to interview an expert in any field.

Using a Samsung Galaxy Tab, Mehta interviewed Ramu, a 36-year-old man working as a local gardener. While struggling to make a living, Ramu spent time planting trees to improve the environment. The People’s Choice Award was given to the video that received the most comments. Fifty-six people commented on Mehta’s entry. This was a number far greater than was received by any other entry in the competition, which attracted short films from six countries: Australia, Bolivia, India, Japan, the U.S., and the U.K. In thanking the many people who wrote about his video, Mehta explained the challenge he faced during the production–the subject was ill and having trouble speaking– and his creative solution. The 3 minute Interview and other entries could be viewed here :

Talking about this achievement Mehta said - 'It was a unique experience. The Video Entry which was submitted in the competition was originally prepared for another competition last year. The film was screened there but It could not win anything. Until then I was invited by Mobile Movie Making magazine team to submit a video entry about interviewing a person who should be an expert in his field. I recalled how previous entry of mine fit the bill totally. I took permission from the organizers to submit the same film in the Contest and they agreed. The competition ran from April 2017 to September 2017. This period allowed everyone to showcase their entries to the world. Fortunately enough, my entry was well received and It won the prize. I would like to thank all friends and other people for their love, support and even criticism they gave to my film. I am glad that most of the comment generated genuine feedback. Also big thanks to Mobile Movie Making Team for giving me the opportunity to showcase the film on a global platform. I am looking forward to more competitions from their portal.

Other Winners :

The jury prize was awarded to Upcoming YouTuber”—created by Patrick Levar, an American now living in Japan. The interview documents Levar’s journey on the way to becoming a popular vlogger who offers practical tips for making mobile movies. The winning entry is notable for its use of B-roll (clips that illustrate the narrative), multiple locations, and humor. Levar revealed in a follow-up statement that there’s a bit of fiction in the movie. He pretends that he’s being interviewed by someone–even to the point of apparently shaking the interviewer’s hand at the end of the session. But in reality, the entire production was done solo. “Upcoming YouTuber” belongs in the increasingly popular self-interview genre. The video was shot using a Sony Xperia and a Wimius 4k Action Cam.

The jury also honored the work of four semi-finalists : Rachel Hilleard’s “Project Right” is a funny and poignant two-person interview about creating dating profiles. The production was done using an iPhone 7 plus.
Ryan Olsen’s “Interview with a Professional: SFX Makeup Artist” illustrates a variety of techniques ranging from the off-camera entrance of the subject to the use of appropriately spooky sound music. The camera was an iPhone 7.
Josiah Chad Konsavage’s “Music Production,” a self-interview, recounts the filmmaker’s emergence as a musician, composer, and producer. The video was shot using an Apple iPod Touch. Steven Hause and Andres Bejarano’s “BMXper” gets at the psychological and philosophical aspects of Bicycle Motorcross riding. Two devices were used: a Blu Advance 5.0 smartphone and a Mobius ActionCam.
