Why couldn't the beloved 'Ek Duje ke Vaaste' be saved?

Between all the confusions and never tiring debates, it has now been concluded that the beloved show 'Ek Duje Ke Vaaste' despite all the love and support from fans shall be going off air. While the channel (Sony TV) never gave an official confirmation about the same, the on-goings have indeed made it clear that the show shall breathe its last soon ie. 7th of October 2016. The shoot of the show is said to have already wrapped up.

None of the cast, crew, makers and even the fans are not happy with the decision of shutting the show midway like this. Ek Duje Ke Vaaste was supposed to be Sony's Flagship show that paved the show for a decent watch. The show quickly found appreciation towards the masses and is one of the loved shows on TV? Then what went wrong. Why a flight was cut short before reaching its destination. Why the show was devoid of giving a good chance to prove itself.

Our source shares, Sony had put a lot in Ek Duje Ke Vaaste when It was supposed to go on-air. A lot was on stake with two big shows arriving at Prime time to storm the Industry and the ratings. Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Hi and Ek Duje Ke Vaaste were Sony's big bets to make a comeback in the fiction genre. Sony tried everything to set the buzz ringing for both the shows and even organised live events to attract the masses.

Sony pinned a lot of hopes but both the shows, despite being novel and concept and appreciated in content could not register on the ratings. And it didn't really help the cause that channel's viewership is already low. Crime Patrol and CID are the only ships sailing across but even their viewing has been affected. Worse, all the recently launched show on the channel bombed miserably.

The channel then had its last hopes on 'The Kapil Sharma Show'. The show did fetch the channel some good ratings and after that the channel shifted its entire focus on the same. Coming to Ek Duje..
The show definitely became popular day by day especially the leading pair Nikita Dutta and Namik Paul but for the channel, ratings comes first. Despite repeated attempts, the show's viewership never saw an all time high.

Blame the channel's poor reach, it couldn't really sustain the expectations that were evoked by the show. When we asked our sources if the poor health of the leading actors especially Nikita was to be blamed then they denied it completely. It said 'The channel had already lost patience with the show and was toeing with the Idea to shut down already. That's when all promos and advertisements of the show had disappeared.

However, some fans do not agree with the ratings part, they said that EKDV has been doing well for the channel and was quoted at No.2 show. Also the ratings of Kuch Rang Pyaar ke not being great too. Hence a sudden and demeaning treatment to the show seems unconvincing. Shares our source - 'Sony is bound to keep Kuch Rang...as it has been doing well overseas, Although it's agreeable that trp's of that show hasn't been Impressive.

The Channel has looked upon EKDV like Humsafars. A once popular show that was a massive hit online but couldn't take on TRP's. However EKDV's fanbase is 2x than that show. Ever since the show's going off has been announced. The fans have tried every bit to save the show. Some of them even went out to protest at the Channel's office. But they were not let in to discuss. Moreover, the source shared that the channel doesn't appreciate such moves.

The creative and business decisions regarding any show are made on the table with the concerned people related to the show and since the news has been carried out to shut the show's shop, they won't be giving out anything officially until the heat dries up. It has been reported that Sony shall now telecast - Crime Patrol against the slot of Ek Duje ke Vaaste.

While we understand the channel's decisions for their shows, It certainly wouldn't hurt had they given the show another chance or a season 2. What do you think. Will you miss EKDV?

Social Media has become a necessity for almost everyone. Hardly anyone can survive without it if they are having access. Not just individuals, it's valuable for business related people to spread their network. Individuals wants to stay connected with their friends. But entertainment Industry is the biggest sector which targets social media. After all those numerous fan groups, online discussions about TV shows, celebrities and people give a boost to the Industry in form of many ways. It's one trend that's only increasing day by day.But the question here is...how much Social Media can affect to a success of a commodity. Can a product rely just on social media for success. With Social Media forming such a huge base on its own. Can it really affect for the betterment of the Industry. Let's talk about TV shows here. We don't need to tell how much popular Indian TV shows are on the web. Just hit one word on Google and millions of results shall pour in.

On a daily basis, millions and billions of fans shower their love on their favourite celebrities and TV shows. If we really go by their love, their favourite actors would go on to top every popularity list. They are of course loyal and quite dedicated. It's seen that Fan Power has done wonders in the past for TV shows and the actors. However, here we are talking about the social media popularity affecting the success of a TV show. How does it really contribute.Given by the Fan Power on the web, If we take on that account. Any TV show's huge fan following can guarantee for a huge success of a show.  Unfortunately, how good does it sound but its primarily a myth. In this article, we are not trying to hurt any fan's sentiments but this is one fact that they should understand. Few days back, we conducted a survey on TV shows. We tried to keep an eye on every popular show that has an amazing following.

But when it comes to ratings, there is a different story to tell. Appreciation doesn't turn into numbers. A tv associate on the basis of anonymity told us - "At the end its all about the numbers game. Social Media can help to an extent but if it doesn't help in numbers it's of no use. TV production isn't a child's play anymore. A TV series these days can cost two big budget movies rolling together in the entire production. It's obvious that the pressure to deliver on ratings is always tough to handle.
Some shows manage to do it and some cannot. Making a Quality show is itself a big risk and most of the times, it doesn't work out because the viewership for such shows always remains low. We also asked him about the long running soaps that are being dragged mercilessly and also the concepts of few shows that are turning funnier day by day. He said - "Well ! The makers hardly have a choice. The shows that fail to do well are taken off air in a short period. So the channel is forced to run those shows that have been doing well, if they are still getting the ratings.

He further added - 'The fact is most of the audience that watches these shows aren't even visible on social media. Most of the viewership comes from families and mostly homely women that are associated with these shows. Also, Social Media doesn't comply to only country or a sector. A following for a TV show is huge. It also draws Individuals from many countries. Even if there's a huge spread of word being flown it doesn't necessary imply for a higher viewership.A TV show Gangaa that's performing well overseas instead of its own country is a prime example.
In our survey, the results we found were deliberately surprising. The most appreciated shows on TV these days are 'Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi' 'Ek Duje Ke  Vaaste' 'Meri Awaaz hi Pehchaan Hai' 'Dahleez' but according to latest BARC ratings, their viewership seems not to be much happening While comparing to these shows, the ratings of long dragging and meaningless soaps like Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Naagin, Sasural Simar ka, Saath Nibhana Saathiya have only increased with time despite receiving heavy criticism from social media lovers. Now this is simply Ironical!

We even got in touch with a fan to know her views. Preety Singh from Delhi who loves Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke, Dahleez and Ek Duje.. a lot. She told us that these shows are best. But when tried reasoning with her to face the facts that these shows do not get TRP despite appreciation, Then likely any typical serial lover she brushed us off and tried to win the argument. We gave up but these are facts and we didn't create them. It's a reality. However, there is another edge to the story as well. There are exceptions where Social Media have also strengthened a shows' viewership. Sadda Haq of Channel V is a prime example. The ratings of this show have only increased with the amazing following. and So of other channel V shows  like D3, The Buddy Project and Paanch but one thing can't be ruled out here that Channel V has extensively promoted all these shows on social platforms unlike other channels do.

If you have followed Sadda Haq and D3, you must have followed their facebook pages too. A fantastic marketing campaign was involved that had really helped these shows. Another interesting aspect of the survey was that the TV shows that have almost null popularity on Social Media are actually doing really well. Sony's Hanuman and AndTV's Santoshi Maa both the mythological shows have hardly a great fan base on social media but they are consistently holding well on the charts.

After this, we turned back to the associate and asked for a mutual solution that can help the makers and also the fans on social media. He said - Although it's not possible for a TV show to run long without sustainable ratings however if we takes small measures and steps, there's a light to progress. He hinted towards making shorter series that run for a shorter period that can be deviod of ratings and provide good entertainment value as well. But he also added that's its a temporary solution. Producers still won't take risks to experiment regularly after all there are huge setups and big creative decisions involved. Anyways we can only hope for a bright future in entertainment where everyone can be pleased. The fans, the actors, the audience, the channel everyone in order. Only a change is needed...When ! We are yet to see.

Serial of the Week : Ek Duje Ke Vaaste

This week's our Pick Is Sony TV's Ek Duje Ek Vaaste. The show started a couple of weeks back is engaging people's eyeballs with its simple and sweet story yet told in an extraordinary manner. Once childhood friends [Suman (Nikita Dutta) and Shravan (Naman Paul)] are no longer friends. An incident in childhood left their paths dry and separated them apart. Many years later they come face to face with different situations, circumstances and realize they are unlike their childhood parts - Suman is now a responsible girl who's in debt while Shravan has evolved into a young handsome angry suave lawyer who has still not forgiven Suman. Sparks fly between them but there's a lot of discomfort also. How are they going to come together realizing their weaknesses and become one strength is the baseline of the show.'

Exclusive : Here's the theme/title song of EDKV shared by Namik Paul Himself
EDKV -- Title Track

Highlight of this week.

Shravan Insults Suman in the party and after confronting her Insults her again badly.

Suman is terribly hurt by all this. It's hard for her to Imagine that Shravan who was once her best has turned out to be such a vengeful creature.

Suman loses her control and meets with an accident. Luckily, she is saved by some kind fellows along the street.

Suman's relatives misses the flight and Suman's declared Guilty of all.

Shravan's Brother confronts him about last night and tells him he just love himself only.

Shravan and Sumo meets again at a bus stand. Some goons try to tease Sumo. Shravan doesn't come forward to help.

Sumo's caterer girls come out to help. The overweight friend shouts at being Shravan for being irresponsible.

Sumo loses the money she got for her aunt. She realizes she lost her wallet at the bus stop. She reaches there but could not find it. Shravan instead picks up her wallet and returns to her Aunt. There he also comes to know about her problems.

Shravan decides to lend Suman the money which she has to pay her aunt. Suman is unwilling to accept but her Aunt takes it. Sumo is hurt that Shravan has hurt her self respect.

Suman returns the favour to Shravan by giving her jewellery which is her most prized possession. Seeing the jewellery, Shravan gets deeply hurt and remains stunned for a while.

We must say that the show has taken a wonderful start much better than what its promos had predicted and even better than the other newly launched show on Sony. hence we only wish the show reaches new heights with commercial and critical success.
