Non Popular Social Media shows knocking out Popular Social Media shows.

Social Media's craze is evident in today's times. Almost everyone seems to be having themselves broadcasted here so how can our TV shows lag behind? Almost every TV show has a fanclub. Also the fans of the popular shows spread the word to make them more popular and loved. But does the popularity of a TV show on Social Media guarantees Success? Not Exactly ! The medium of Television is huge and much wider we can Imagine. True there's no doubt that Social Media has totally taken over the temperature of Internet but when it comes to Judging a show on its success, its a completely different ballgame.

Let's talk about Sony Channel first, It has launched some big shows in the past like Ek Duje Ke Vaaste, Bade Bhaiya Ki Dulhania which despite their novelty in concepts went off air Soon. Both the shows were quite a rage on social media. Also Sony's other shows like Beyhadh, Ek Rishta Sajhedaari ka, Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi all are doing extremely well on Social Media when it comes to trending and all. But the show that's giving them real competition is 'SankatVimochan Hanuman' A show which barely exists on Social Media. It has consistently done well ever since it was launched and held its ground pretty strong against the other shows. Surprisingly, some people don't even know that it exists in Social Media world. Also the recently launched Indian Idol is doing well but has no place on Social Media popularity despite having 3 very well known Judges from Bollywood Industry. Similarly, Crime Patrol is their flagship show that runs on daily basis but you would barely find anyone talking about it on regular basis online.

Star Plus shows mostly do well on Social Media because of its reach. Even if the show doesn't get TRP's its likely to rake in the moolah on popularity. All of their shows have a good fan base - Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Chandra Nandini, Suhani si Ek Ladki, Yeh Rishta and so on..all of them are good. But even the channel didn't shied away to experiment with different concepts like Sumeet Sambhal Lega, Everest, Gulmohar Grand, Tamanna so on..these shows couldn't find a base on Social Media but did manage to stick along on TV even if it was for a short period.

Coming to colors, If you check out the Show Udaan on Social Media there is no much heat for it against the other shows that are far more popular. But look at its growth, it's consistently making way into Top 10 and knocking out the biggies like Swargini, Thapki, Kasam and so on.... The Channel's reach and the show of the concept plays bigger Importance than Social Media. Also the fact that Colors big budget reality shows - Jhalak and Bigg Boss where they are spending so much on the promotions and marketing. They did make noise on Social Media but commercially they both were duds this year. Despite millions of tweets and facebook posts, A large section of audiences stayed away from both the shows.

But the biggest trendsetters in this case are the channels LIFE OK, & TV and SAB TV. Most of their shows doing well do not have a great fan base. But people do watch them. For LIKE OK, we can find a show that trends on people's minds - Savdhaan India, May I come in Madam etc however Rajni_Kant seems to have done well on that account but now its also going OFF AIR. The channel's recently launched show Ghulaam might be hit online because of its respective 3 leads who are known on Social Media. But the channel's power doesn't depend on it. It's clocking on TRP's strongly without the base of Fan Clubs. For Example - May I Come in Madam, No one really thought this show would show growth, survive and how.

Image result for santoshi maa &TV
Coming to &TV the case is similar to LIFE OK. however, their show Gangaa seems to be quite popular on Social Media in overseas. Also, Bhabhi Ji ghar par hain has also some base. But the show that has consistently doing good is Santoshi Maa which doesn't even exist on the chart of Fan Clubs. The ditto goes for SAB TV. The channel has such a huge viewership and has been challenging its Sister GEC Sony for years just on the account of its comedy shows. People watch them, enjoy them but do not express online. This is how it is. Known Young faces and their chemistry bring people on board but TRP's are something very difficult to calculate.

Also, given the fact that most of the viewership of such shows comes from household wives and homely women who aren't much driven on Social Media. The youth stays active but their Interest in these shows regularly is something hard to decipher. No doubt it's the elder family women that takes up the charge to respond in viewership of a TV show. At last, the conclusion is reached that a TV show shouldn't be looked down upon if its not accepted or loved on Facebook or Twitter. The concept of the show should be Judged first.

Sidharth Malhotra's Best Performances at a Glance

Today is Sidharth Malhotra our birthday boy. Wish him a very happy birthday with lots of love and success and a great year. Sidharth begun his career with Dharma Productions 'Student of the Year' which was quite a dream launch for him. The film was a success that turned him into an overnight star and since there has been no looking back. Today we feature top five performances of his that got us really hooked.

5. Brothers : Let's face it, Overall..Brothers was not a great movie sure it was definitely a one time watch and Sidharth makes a lot of effort to make it so. He worked out on his character 'Monty' pretty hard and tried his best to get into the skin of the wrestler. Comparisons with Akshay Kumar was inevitable but he moved shoulder to shoulder with him. On the whole, its difficult to rate it a great performance but definitely Sidharth's efforts are quite appreciated.

4. Ek Villian : Playing a grey role isn't easy. Sometimes It can be suicidal to your career if it doesn't work out great however Sidharth's Guru did the trick in Ek Villian. Based unofficially on the korean film 'I saw the Devil', Sidharth plays a gangster troubled by his childhood. It's when he falls in love with a chirpy girl (shraddha kapoor) and mend his ways. All hell breaks loose when she gets killed and he sets out to avenge her death. The film was well received and so was Sid. He shows a vast Improvement in his acting . Also, it was a treat to have a glimpse of his Action Skills too.

3. Student of the Year : If it comes to popularity factor. Sidharth's Abhimanyu wins here HANDS DOWN ! Glowing with great looks and riveting features, SOTY was a great entertainment filled show. It was a Youth film packed all the right ingredients to have people flock into the theatres. Also this film had a lot of male skin show. Whatever that is, Sidharth impressed us all in everything he did. The biggest plus of his act that despite his character having various shades, he comes across as a quite friendly being. Since it was his debut, A little bit of rawness can be seen in some of scenes but that can be overlooked as the film hit the right chords of entertainment.

2. Kapoor and Sons : Well we wonder why that in such a good film..Sidharth was left out? Almost everyone from the cast received an applause whether its Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rajat Kapoor, Fawad Ali or even Alia Bhatt despite her role being shorter. Sidharth gave an earnest performance of a young guy feeling trapped in a family's troubled paradise. Let's give some credit to him. He gives out the best to the character he could and it shows. The film was critically acclaimed and well received but Sidharth didn't get his due. Well It would be great if we could contribute in that sense in telling him that Kapoor and Sons is one of your brightest medals in terms of performance. Kudos !

1. Hasee Toh Phasee : And now we come down to No.1 After a lot of consideration we came to this conclusion that Hasee Toh Phasee is Sidharth Malhotra's finest work to date. Reason? He seems perfect in the character he plays. He doesn't strike a single false note and that's mainly the film itself is so beautiful and engaging. Although Parineeti Chopra received much acclaim for her performance, It was Sidharth's Nikhil who is actually the core of the story. His character is so relatable. He is a young middle class guy who is troubled between his fiancee and the woman he loves and how deals with situation throughout is endearing. It's appalling to know that HTP didn't really make that Impact at the box office which it deserved to do after all the country wide acclaim it got. Sure it was a success but it meant to be bigger and so was Sidharth's contribution to the film. If you want to celebrate Sidharth's Birthday with a film. Hasee Toh Phasee is the best option,

Again we wish Sidharth a very happy birthday. Have a superb year ahead !

Indian TV industry - An upward trend or troubled times?

The Indian television industry has been one of the most prominent industries of the nation covering a huge sector of entertainment. But lately it has been badly hit, let's take a look how.
The Indian TV industry is certainly not unknown. A huge section of audience is attached to it and millions of viewers watch their favourite shows on daily basis. The craze for TV is still the same be it children, elders or aged folks. TV is popular with all. But lately, the industry has been at the receiving end to experience some fall. This fall has been explained by the fall in viewership of channels on the basis of a survey that was generated recently through broadcast and satellite dimension.

The survey explains why it is becoming hard for the channels to attain strong viewership with TV soaps being closed down in just few months. Not only the TV soaps, but even the channels have been shutting down due to low viewership. In the past, we have seen some big channels like 9X and Imagine to shut down and this year, one of the most popular channel for youth Channel V India, shut down its youth programming and switched back to musical genre.
Although a clear cause was never given by the channel on what account they surrendered their youth fiction programming to musical genre, it was quite evident that the channel was definitely not getting good TRP to run it further.

Sony TV comes next that has become sort of an expert of shutting down shows due to low viewership. This year they launched 3 big shows - Ek Duje Ke Vaaste and Bade Bhaiya ki Dulhania - both couldn't even sustain their viewership for more than 4-5 months and were pulled off air.

Also, their latest offering Beyhadh has opened to very poor numbers. Rumours are also doing round that their show 'Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi' will go off air for the same reason. Their only silver lining is 'The Kapil Sharma Show' and its long running successful shows 'CID' and 'Crime Patrol'.

Star Plus, once a hugely popular channel by all means is not seeing great times as well. Tried to experiment with different genres and subjects like Everest, Gulmohar Grand and Tamanna the channel hasn't seen that sort of success. Also it had to shut down some of its major projects like 'Nisha aur Uske Cousins, Manmarziyan and Dahleez' all because of poor ratings. All these shows were mostly targeted at Youth out of which some appreciated the content but rating-wise, they were wash-outs. Star is forced to run and drag its successful shows like 'Yeh Hai Mohabbatein' and 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' to have a relief.

Colors on the other hand seems to be giving tough competition to all other channels. However, even its programming has seen a decline. If shows like Naagin 2 and Shakti are doing well for the channel, then we have 'Comedy Nights Bachao' which is riding low in viewership. Also, some of the events that the channel telecast have not been successful. Its big ticket show Big Boss 10 featuring Salman Khan hasn't been a stunner either.

The channel that showed both promise and growth was &TV, but lately, it has slowed down both in terms of content and viewership. It has shut down almost all its earlier shows and the current shows aren't doing well enough. Even 'Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai' has lost its steam. However, its sister channel &Pictures is doing comparatively better. &TV is sister production of ZEE TV, which is sustaining well in the race, but still lacking that required push.

A TV producer on the condition of anonymity did confess that the industry is definitely not in its golden period. "Ratings just don't affect the channel but also the production houses, artists, technicians and the rest of the team. There is immense pressure to deliver on ratings than to offer good content. TV channels these days, review each episode to monitor what the audience wants and works accordingly, but sometimes even that fall flat. The production cost for every TV show is almost close to a good budget film hence they are mostly taken down if do not work out commercially."

However, coming to the viewership, there is still one area which hasn't been affected and that's cricket. The sport which is celebrated as a religion in the country continues to draw high amount of ratings for all its major driving channels. Set Max usually get the top order as it is associated with IPL, which takes the channel's ratings to all time high during its broadcast.

There is no denying that there is fluctuation and it's mainly because in the taste of audiences that keeps changing. It is high time that good content on television should return in terms of good entertainment and our audiences should evolve in making a change to make this regressive programming on Indian Television cleaner and better. With some work and hope, things shall definitely see a change.
